Argentina's former President Alberto Fernández accused of domestic violence

Buenos Aires - Former first lady Fabiola Yañez denounced former president Alberto Fernández for gender violence before Judge Julián Ercolini, who issued restriction and protection measures, and prohibited the former president from leaving the country, who responded through a statement. The incident would have occurred when both were a couple and lived in the presidential residence of Quinta de Olivos.

The case became known while the cell phone seized from Alberto Fernández's historic secretary, María Cantero, was being investigated in the middle of an insurance corruption case. In the expert report, a chat was found in which Yañez, who had a son with Alberto Fernández, made reference to Cantero that she had suffered gender violence at the Quinta de Olivos from the then president. According to her, Yañez had sent a photo to show the blows suffered.

The former president denied his former partner's statements and said that he will go to court with evidence.

“Aware of Fabiola Yáñez's complaint against me through the media, I want to express that the truth of the facts is different. I'm just going to say that it is false and that what he now accuses me of never happened," the former president said in a statement.

And he closed: “For the integrity of my children, of myself, and also of Fabiola herself, I am not going to make statements in the media, but rather I will provide evidence and testimonies in court that will reveal what really happened.”

A video was recently released in which the then President Fernandez filmed Tamara Pettinato, a radio presenter, with whom he flirted and claimed to love. The video would have occurred during the 2021 lockdown at the Casa Rosada.

Alberto Fernández was supported by left-wing activists, mainly feminists, for his speeches in which he used gender-neutral language or for his exclamations against patriarchy and gender violence.

Today many of his supporters (celebrities, journalists and activists) have remained silent or pretend to be surprised at the hypocrisy of the former president.
